Search For The Perfect Mascara

I am on a Quest! A self set mission to find the perfect mascara. I've used a few (tons) mascaras in my time but I'm yet to find that one that will make me say "This is it. I never need to buy another brand of mascara ever again because this is the holy grail of eye make up."

Here's the three mascaras I've been trying recently :

What? B. Loud High Volume Mascara

Who? B. Makeup - A relatively new (2013 ish) makeup range, exclusive to Superdrug that's suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
How much? It normally costs £9.99, but I got mine on offer for £5.
Pros: I love the giant brush, it's great for catching every lash and it's quite good for building up volume.
Cons: The formula of this mascara just isn't great sadly. You can create really lovely looking lashes, but if you don't allow tons of time to dry they all clump together. Even an hour after I applied it they somehow still ended up looking a sticky mess - the type of glue-y effect you get when you remove false lashes.
It has to be removed with water which sounds good in theory but is a bit annoying in practically when I'm in my room at night using a make up remover for the rest of my face.
Conclusion: Initially I loved this, then the clumping fiasco happened and I hated it. Since then I've been tentively using it, doing very thin layers at a time (and taking ages) and it's been alright. I'd probably give this a steady 3/5, I don't think I would repurchase but it's alright to use when I've run out of other mascaras.

What? Loreal Volume Million Lashes Excess

The top of my mascaras are filthy?!
Who? I'm pretty sure everyone knows who Loreal are! I've always been a big fan of their mascaras, so I was excited to try this one.
How much? £10.99
Pros : It's great for lengthening, pretty good for thickening and the brush catches every lash creating a great look that can be applied quickly.
Cons: It could do with a adding a tiny bit more volume and I'm not a big fan of the bendy brush, even though it does create a good result (this is just me being fickle)
Conclusion: I really loved this mascara,  not enough for me to abandon my search, but if I don't find an earth shatteringly perfect mascara I could happily use this for the rest of my days. I'd give this a 4/5.

What: Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

Who: Urban Decay, gods of the eyeshadow palette scene.
How much? £17.50
Pros: Emmm...I liked the way it looked on my bottom lashes?
Cons: It just really didn't deliver, it didn't lengthen or volumize as well as the other two mascaras.
Conclusion: I had such high hopes for this mascara, especially since Urban Decay dominates when it comes to eyeshadow palettes, I thought that this would be of a similar quality, but I just didn't love it and couldn't justify the price tag. I'd probably give this a 2/5 sadly. (If it was slightly cheaper I could justify a 3/5 but the cost of it made me expect a lot more.)

If anyone's interested here's a side by side comparison of all the brushes :

(From L-R) Loreal Excess Lash, Urban Decay Perversion, B. Loud
The current leaderboard:

1. Loreal Excess Lash - 4/5
2. B. Loud - 3/5
3. Urban Decay Perversion 2/5

Stayed tuned for more mascara reviews, I'll update the leaderboard as I go. Has anyone got any they would recommend?

Have The Town

  1. If you can, try Too Faced's Better Than Sex mascara. I have used it for a year now (travel sizes - that's a thing in Canada that apparently isn't here in the UK. It means you actually finish a tube!) and it has pretty much become my holy grail mascara. I refuse to buy a full size though because it dries out! If you can get hold of a travel size, definitely try it!

    1. Thanks so much for the recommendation, I will absolutely give it a go! :)

  2. L'oreal usually wins for my top top mascara picks! I'm constantly trying all different ones especially from the drug store because I refuse to buy top brands. If I wore it daily, then I'd definitely dish out more money for them. The L'oreal Lash-Out Butterfly is my current fave :)

  3. I'm always on the quest for the perfect mascara. I'm not convinced there is one as I always want more. Maybelline colassal volume always rates highly for me as a high street all rounder!

I've not tried any of these ones. I'd get annoyed by the b one too with the removal thing.
