June Round Up

You know the Woody's round up song from Toy Story 2? That's in my head now. (It's time for Kirsty's round upppp..) I can't believe I'm already doing my second one of these. Time is actually flying! So without further ado here's some of my favourite things and moments from June:

The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

Another award post! I feel like I've done a lot of these lately but since I'm still fairly new to blogging I figure it's a good way for people to get to know me a bit better! And I'm sure you all find these really interesting, right?!

I was nominated twice for this, firstly by Michelle from Sugardust and Starlight (I adore this blog name!) and then by my fellow dino enthusiast Sarah from Things Sarah Loves. I'm going to answer both sets of questions because I'm a crazy cat and that's how I roll.

Onwards with the questions :

1.What is your favourite book and why?

Probably "I Capture the Castle" by Dodie Smith, I just absolutely love the writing style, the theming, the plot and have such happy memories of reading it.

2. What did you do today?

Nothing as of yet, but I'm planning to head into town. Got a craving for H&M!

3. If you could have any pet, what would it be?

Other than the massive fluffy wolf-dog German Shepard we currently have in an absolute dream world I'd want a big fat panda that could live in my garden (who am I kidding, he'd have free roam of the house) and I'd grow all the bamboo he wanted. In more realistic terms I would love a big fluffly white Samoyed dog.
4. What’s your current favourite song and why?
My favourite song of all time is Hysteria by Def Leppard, there's something about the lyrics that I just love.
5. If you could give just one piece of advice for life, what would it be?
Have fun and don't take yourself too seriously. Is that two pieces? Am I cheating with that?
6. Do you have a favourite quote and what is it?
I have tons, but I'm going to go for "You can have the town, why don't you take it?" for obvious reasons.
7. What do you enjoy reading most in other people’s blogs?
I love life advice posts, any kind of "how to" and anything a bit more personal about the writer.
8. What’s your worst habit?

I never get up with my alarm goes off. And I wake up in the middle of the night and check my twitter. Not purposefully I want to add, I don't set an alarm so I can check on a regular basis how many followers I've gained (usually minus 2) but whenever I do wake up instead of rolling over and going to sleep I'm instantly on my phone. Potentially these two bad habits are strongly linked. Oh! And I also lose the lid for everything.
9. What’s your favourite film and why?
Breakfast at Tiffany's. I love old films, and this is just the ultimate for me. It has a beautiful ending, Audrey Hepburn, a wild party and a ginger cat, all the prerequisites for the best film of all time.
10. How would you spend the perfect day?
I'd wake up and be living in Florida again I'd get up really early and go to Animal Kingdom before heading to Universal and spending all day in the Harry Potter themed part. I'd then to Parliament House Resort, a ridiculous gay club and my favourite place in the world. I could go into intricate detail of exactly where I'd go at Disney but I'll spare you all! (Expedition Everest would definitely be involved though!)

Harry Potter world, I love you!
And the questions from Sarah :

1. Favourite pizza topping?
Mozarella, fresh tomatoes, goats cheese and caramelized onions. (And a bit of bacon's always a bonus)
2. If you could be any animal in the world, which would you be and why?
A panda, so I could frolick around all day long and eat bamboo and be really special and rare.
3. When it comes to shoes: heels or flats?
I broke my wrist wearing ridiculous heels on a night out one time, but I've been getting back into them again! I'd always wear flats during the day though.
4. What is one of your favourite childhood memories?
Going to the York dungeons with my family. And queueing up in a bookstore in Durham for the third Harry Potter book!
5. Your biggest make up disaster has been...?
Basically any make up look I did between the ages of 12 and 15.
6. What do you enjoy most about blogging?
I know this is cliche but I'd have to say meeting new people. It's also great to have a hobby to focus on!
7. Name one city in the world you would love to visit and why?
I need to go to Vegas. I don't know how I've not been yet! I'd also be wild for Hawaii. (Forgetting Sarah Marshall and 50 First Dates have sold it to me.)
8. Are you a bookworm? Do you have any favourite authors?
I adore reading. Favourite authors include JK Rowling, Sophie Kinsella, Eva Rice, Georgette Heyer and Oscar Wilde.
9. What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting a blog?
I would say to get involved in twitter and to have obvious links on your blog to all your social media sites. Other than that, just do what makes you happy! If blogging starts to become a chore because you're trying too hard to write what you think people want to read it'll stop being a hobby.
10. What are your plans this summer?! What will you be getting up to? (Or have you been up to, depending on when you answer this, haha)
I took a three month holiday at the start of the year so I think this summer will be spent around the UK. Have lots of friends in England that I really want to visit, desperate for a Manchester night out!

 I'd like to nominate :

Dena Jayne
Holly R

All great blogs, so make sure you go read them!

And my questions :

1. What would you ideally like to be doing in 10 years time? And where would you want to be living?

2. If you were forced to watch a film 5 times in a row what would you pick?

3. What's the best birthday you've ever had?

4. What was your favourite TV show as a teen? (or child if you'd rather)

5. What's your favourite thing to cook?

6. What's your favourite outfit?

7. What's your favourite song of all time?

8. If you could meet any TV or book character who would you pick? (Bonus points if the answer's Harry Potter related ;) )

9. Where's the furthest you've travelled?

10. Would you rather : Only be allowed to blog for an hour a week OR get paid really well to blog for a living but you can only write about things that bore you?

Looking forward to reading everyone's answers!

Banoffee Biscuits and other tea party ideas

Last weekend I had my sister and her husband (and my baby nephew) round for lunch.  Usually we go to their house and the food is amazing. Seriously, I look forward to going there more than I do going to a restaurant. The only downside to this is that it meant the bar for Sunday was set painfully high.

We decided to do a platter based lunch with tons of food we could just shove on the table and allow everyone to help themselves. Here's some of the things we made :

Primark Top Haul

Two posts in two days? Clearly I am on fire this week! The Fashion tab on my blog was looking a bit empty so I thought I'd show everyone what I picked up in Primary today. The dress code in my office is smart-casual ish so I'll probably pair these with a nice skirt for work :

I also got this t shirt which I'll not be wearing to work, but will pair it with some shorts for summer!

All of these were between £3-£6. bargain city!

You can probably tell from my blog decor that I'm all about pink and spots, so I also had to pick up this little beaut for £1 (I'm one of those suckers that always makes a last minute purchase at the check out):

So that was everything I got today. I also stopped off at a craft shop and bought some bits and pieces for a post I've got coming up. (Cue mysterious music.)

Has anyone else picked up any bargains in Primark lately?

Search For The Perfect Mascara

I am on a Quest! A self set mission to find the perfect mascara. I've used a few (tons) mascaras in my time but I'm yet to find that one that will make me say "This is it. I never need to buy another brand of mascara ever again because this is the holy grail of eye make up."

Go Travelling!

"I'd been living in the house about a week when I noticed that the mailbox belonging to Apt. 2 had a name-slot fitted with a curious card...It read: Miss Holiday Golightly; and underneath, in the corner, Travelling. It nagged me like a tune: Miss Holiday Golightly, Travelling."
Truman Capote - Breakfast at Tiffany's

This post is for anyone who has been thinking about going travelling but is still having doubts! It's such a hard decision to make, just deciding to pack up your bags and go - Trust me I know! I lived in America for a year working at Disney World and have also travelled round Thailand, Malaysia and Australia. It was terrifying making the decision to get on the plane but it was also the best thing I have ever done. Some of my best friends now - and my boyfriend!- are people I met when I was living in America, it was so insanely life changing and it's crazy to think that at one point I had doubts about going!

I thought I would address some of the main concerns many people have about going travelling and ways around them.

At my "Disney Graduation"

2. My favourite films of all time are The Little Mermaid and Breakfast at Tiffany's. (With My Fair Lady, Clueless and Gone With The Wind close behind.)

BBQ Recipes

Bit of a deviation from my normal posts here (And its not birthday related!) but the sunny weather (and the fact we had a BBQ tonight) inspired me.

Birthday Night Out and Present Haul

Hope everyone had an amazing weekend! I meant to do this post on Sunday but, I'm going to be honest here, I spent most of yesterday watching Disney films and feeling slightly worse for wear! And then I meant to do it last night, but I completely forgot that I've signed up for a photoshop course! (The less said about this the better, it was ridiculous. And I have three weeks to go. Three! Here's hoping it picks up!)

I went out on Saturday night for my birthday and I had an amazing time! We had a few drinks at our house and played 80s Singstar and Beer Pong before heading to a club for an ill advised evening of dancing and Jaeger bombs.

This was my hair and make up look for the night :

The make up I used :

Foundation: A mixture of Maybelline Fit Me and Loreal True Match
Blusher : Estee Lauder Nude Rose (sadly it looks like they don't sell this anymore!)
Lipstick : Max Factor Colour Elixer Pink Brandy
Eyeshadow : Urban Decay Naked palette
Eyeliner : Collection Fast Stroke Eye Liner and for my waterline Maybelline Master Kajal Liner
Eyebrows :  Model Co More Brows
False Lashes : Eylure Volume 107
Mascara : L'Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes Excess Black Mascara
Highlighter : Kryolan for Glossybox Highlighter in Cashmere
Bronzer : Make Up Revolution Blush, Bronze & Brighten

I actually only got one full length photo of my dress, I kept thinking I'd get one later and then completely forgot (Idiot!)
No idea what my boyfriend's doing in this photo!
My lovely shoes aren't in the photo, but I wrote about them in this post here.

I also had my nails painted to match my dress :

I thought I'd show everyone some of the stuff I got for my birthday, I really hope this doesn't come across as bragging, but a few people said they'd like to see a haul and I thought it'd be fun! Some of these items were on my wishlist and some were complete surprises!

Like I mentioned in my wishlist post, I ordered these beauties to wear on my birthday night out. (And then didn't end up wearing them because they didn't go with the dress I bought - they'll have their time though!)

I got the original Naked pallette and it was love at first brush. It came in a set with the Urban Decay Perversion mascara. I have a big mascara review post coming up, so I'll let you all know my thoughts on it there! I also got the Flower By Kenzo perfume, it's got a nice scent but to be honest it's not really to my personal taste!

You know you live in the UK when you can legitimately get an umbrella for your birthday in June and instantly get use out of it! I've needed a brolly for a while, so I was delighted to get this!

I've got a little bit into gardening recently! By this I mean I planted a few sunflowers in some pots and water them about every three days when I remember! They need to be replanted outside now, so these were a pretty thoughtful gift!

I got this adorable beaded watch. I mentioned these watches in a post a while back, so my boyfriend must have been scouring my blog to get ideas - Awwwww!

I also got some candles and a cute holder for them. Love me some candles! The Vanilla Cupcake is my favourite!

My sister got me this shorts and top combo - she did well, this looks exactly like something I would wear! She got them both from Next, in case anyone fancies buying them too.

And - I've saved my favourite present for last...Dun Dun DuuUUUUuuuN!

My boyfriend made me a jewellery holder! Out of an old tree branch! How he even did this I don't know, but I LOVE it! This photo doesn't even do it justice, the thing is a work of art! (And now the bar has been set ridiculously high for his birthday in a few months, Ack!)

My owl earrings love it too!

So that's some of the things I got, hope this was interesting! Let me know if you get anything exciting recently in the comments (it doesn't have to be birthday related!)

Yesterday was my birthday which some people may already know from my last post or my continuous tweets about it (sorry birthdays really excite me), so I thought I'd just let everyone know what I got up to!

This was my make up and hair look of the day :

Birthday Wishlist

It's my BIRTHDAY on Thursday. Yaaaaay! I've been thinking for a while (months we're talking here) about what I want. I'd just like to add that by no means do I expect to get all of these things! Especially since I haven't, you know, told anyone I want this stuff, but maybe I'll frantically email the link round everyone I know after I post this. (Along with the news that I've started a blog.)
