Sunday Shopping

I thought I'd just do a little update about what I got up to this weekend. I always enjoy reading these kind of posts because I love getting a little glimpse into people's day to day life that you don't get from make up and book reviews! Anyway, let me know if you like these kind of posts and I will gladly go out shopping every day and take photos of it!

If you follow me on Instagram you'll have seen a few of these photos already, but for those who don't (why not?! Sort your lives out!) this was my outfit of the day :

Barry M Sunset Nail Paint

I popped into Superdrug again on my lunch the other week (I'd just like to take this moment to say that none of these posts are sponsored by Superdrug and that it's completely of my own accord that I spend all my time and money in there) and picked up some of the new Barry M Sunset Nail Paint.

May Favourites

I haven't done a monthly favourites post yet (What have I been doing with my life?!) so this is the first. Basically just a little list of all the things I've been enjoying in May.

1. Taking the dog out

I enjoy this most months, but I've really been enjoying it for the past few weeks. The weather's been (marginally) better and it's still been light in the evenings.

Perfect Library Update - Where'd You Go Bernadette

I'm making more progress with my Perfect Library list, although at this rate it will be 2020 by the time I get it completed. See, the problem is that I used to read as a hobby, but now I have a new hobby : blogging. Which was great until I realised that I hadn't read any books to actually blog about.

Anyway! The next book I chose was "Where'd You Go Bernadatte"  by Maria Semple mainly because I was drawn to the Holly Golightly-esque picture on the cover.

The Liebster Award

So today I was nominated for the Liebster Award by Dena Jayne. (Make sure you check out her blog if you're reading this!) This is an exciting event for me because it's the first thing I've ever been tagged in!

The Rules Are:
  •  Thank and link the person who nominated you.
  •  Answer the nominator's 11 questions.
  • Nominate 11 small blogs who have less than 200 followers. You should believe that they deserve this award, include their link in your post.
  • Create 11 new questions for your nominees to answer.
  •  Notify these nominees via social media/blog.
I don't think I actually know any small bloggers that haven't been tagged already but if you're reading and want to do it, CONSIDER YOURSELF TAGGED!

My Questions :

1. What inspired you to create your blog?

I've always loved writing and wanted to start a blog for a while but I think the thing that finally pushed me to do it was coming back from travelling and wanting something fun to do while I was job searching. And then I got a job so I was really enjoying it so I kept it up.

The Guinness Factory and Game of Thrones Tour

My pal visited me from Australia recently and, as a Scottish person living in Ireland, I had to frantically do research about where to take him and how to work it all round a schedule that would also allow us a crazy night out (priorities obviously!)

Perfect Library Update - Agatha Christie - "Miss Marple and Mystery: The Complete Short Stories"

So I've got an update (ish) from my Perfect Library challenge which you can read about here.

The next book that I randomly selected off my list was "Miss Marple and Mystery: The Complete Stories"
I love Agatha Christie, she is an absolute legend and I don't think any other mystery writer can come close to her in terms of achievement. She created Hercule Poirot, she wrote the world's longest running play and her books amongst the most published in the world, third only to The Bible and Shakespeare.

That said, I've been struggling to get her "Miss Marple and Mystery" book finished. There's several reasons for this and none of them are the fault of dear old Agatha. Firstly, it is massive, it is literally the size of a brick and a hell of a large brick at that.

Massive!
Any book that size is going to take a while to finish, especially when the font also happens to be minuscule. That alone wouldn't put me off, I have ploughed my way through many large books but I think the book being comprised of short stories (over 50 of them) is what's really making it a slow process.

It's just hard to get into a book where you know the characters you're trying to care about are going to be gone in a few pages. (Because the story is done, not in a Game of Thrones kind of way)

Another reason is because I kind of don't want to spoil reading mystery novels for myself. I think you can become dangerously genre savy when you read a lot of one kind of book, and in recent years I've found myself able to predict a lot of "twist" endings. I'm actually not predicting much in this book, which is good and hats off to Agatha for being a genius, but I'm worried that reading, say, 30 short stories in one sitting might get me to the point where I'm no longer surprised by anything.

I feel like I should say that the short stories themselves are actually excellent and I am enjoying it, just not in a frantically-turning-the-pages-can't- get-enough type of way. However there's another Agatha Christie book on the list, a regular one, so I'm looking forward to that.

If anyone has any book recommendations in the meantime please let me know in the comments! Have The Town

Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick

I have a new favourite lipstick! When I was browsing Superdrug on my lunch break (it's starting to get dangerous working less than two minutes away from somewhere I could easily spend my whole pay cheque the day I get it) I picked up a few lipsticks from the Bourjois Rouge Edition range and it was love at first sight.

The first shade which I shoved frantically into my basket was number 11 - Fraise Remix which is a pretty pink colour. I really like the shade because it's bold enough to be noticeable and yet casual enough to wear to the office or for going to the shops. (Not that you can't wear bright blue lipstick going to the shops if that's your thing, don't let me hold you back.)

My Aunt Jane's Tearoom

I went to this little tea room yesterday when it was raining and fell in love with it instantly. It honestly looks like a themed restaurant out of a Disney Park (I would know, I used to work at Disney World) and as soon as I got in I was doing that annoying blogger thing where you just go round and take photos of everything - I think the staff probably thought I was a bit mental.
